Breaking Down Common Advice: Be Yourself!

Image
Pop quiz! What's the most common piece of advice people give?  Be Yourself! Which we all know is sometimes easier said than done. There are so many people who need so many things from us. How can we show up as who they need us to be, and show up as who we want to be at the same time? There are so many people who seem to be doing better than us. What if we just took some notes from them? Surely if I follow them to the letter, I will be fulfilled and happy!      But it's a myth, y'all. Adulting is hard and confusing and none of us actually knows what we are doing. Those people who have it all together? There are two important things to remember: A) they feel sadness, stress and overwhelm. They are not immune to the negative emotions of life. It's just not pretty enough to put on social media. And B) those people worked for YEARS on being their best selves. They did not wake up one day and flip a switch. They worked. They read, they studied, and they found out the keys ...

My Top Ten Mood Boosting Bops

Image
I'm a person prone to anxiety. I've learned a lot of habits that help me calm down and get my mind and heart rate to slow down. And one of those things is music! So here is a short and sweet playlist I put together with a mix of songs in no particular order that help me get out of a funk and back in a good mindset. Warning: These bops are catchy, and very danceable. Listen at your own risk. I can't be liable for songs stuck in heads or moves busted. 1. Mr. Brightside - The Killers           Has there ever been a more sing-alongable song than that of Mr. Brightside? It gets me moving and grooving in no time. 2. Love On Top - Beyonce          Look, the Queen Bey had to make it onto this list. You knew it was coming and you're glad it happened. 3. I Believe in a Thing Called Love - The Darkness          Falsetto has this amazing ability to brighten any dark mood. And if you don't rock your best air guitar when ...

Breaking Down Common Advice: Believe In Yourself!

Image
Believe in yourself! It's gotta be up there among the most given pieces of advice in history. And I'm here to remind you that you absolutely, 100% should believe in yourself. What I'm hoping you'll take away from it this time is a slightly different perspective on what that can look like. Believing in yourself traditionally looks like knowing, with absolute certainty that you are capable and prepared to handle any situation that comes your way. And that's simply not how life looks a lot of the time. I'd reckon it's not how life looks a good 95% of the time! The cool thing about life is that we only go through it once, so everything we do is a unique situation. The sucky thing about life is that exact same sentence with one word changed.  My point is, believing in yourself, while incredibly sound advice, is generally easier said than done. Mostly because we haven't fully broken down what it looks like when you do. So here are some examples...

Why I love Girl, Wash Your Face

Image
I'm a Rachel Hollis fangirl... And you should be, too. Girl, Wash Your Face  came into my life in a time I really needed it. It was one of those time when everything went from working the way it was supposed to "oh no, what have I done?" really quickly. In 2018 I lost about 20 pounds and was my healthiest self ever. I wasn't my smallest but I was definitely my fittest. It's the only time I've been able to run a full 5K. I went to Disney World for the first time ever (truly the most magical place on earth). Things were good.  My then-boyfriend (now husband!) and I knew we wanted to move out of our home state and that year we decided to do it. Like, go big or go crawling back home, $150-and-a-dream moved out of our home state. We went for it without jobs lined up or a place to stay. We took a weekend to find a place to stay in the smallest unit of a triplex 45 minutes outside of Chattanooga. And the next week I packed up as much as I could in m...

I have lots of things I want to share with the world and I hope this is a place I can get them out there. I'll be posting new blogs on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Make sure you subscribe to get the latest posts! We also have a YouTube channel and a Twitter for our livestreams. I play games (poorly) and talk about life. It's more fun than it sounds, promise.
